An ageless veteran of the NYC music scene, Chris Q. Murphy melds his youth in punk bands, time spent on classical stages, and gigs of every stripe in every corner of the city into his latest offering, the Automat.   Drawing on mid-century traditions from the very signposts of American Music (New Orleans, Chicago, Memphis, Kansas City), this distinctly NYC ensemble resides somewhere between the top shelf of your local dive-bar and deep in the well of the classier joints as they deliver Murphy's wry tunes with the bounce of rhythm and blues, the swagger of soul, and some jazz sophistication. In its heyday, the Automat was a place where people from all walks of life would gather in the heart of the city to get fast, affordable, and delicious versions of classic, simple American grub: pies, sandwiches, and the best cup of coffee imaginable… and Chris Q. Murphy & the Automat bring that very vibe to the stage and studio.

Take You Out Rockin’

Chris Q. Murphy and The Automat and Lacy Records are proud to present the new EP: “Take You Out Rockin,” a collection of four of Chris’s original tunes that harken back to the rock’n’roll era. Chris’s witty and charming lyrics are underpinned by the raw energy of the Automat: a 5-piece combo of guitar, saxophone, organ, drums, and acoustic bass.

The EP was recorded live in one day at Hive Mind Recording. Whether you’re a fan of roots-fusion like JD McPherson, Jackson & the Janks, Pokey LaFarge, or if you simply admire a good mix of jump blues, americana, and jazz, the Automat has concocted a brew that will tickle your ears with the best of American roots musical influences.
